Between 10% and 20% of women around the world suffer from this disease, which is characterized mainly by <strong>accumulation of fat in the extremities <\/strong>of patients, being more common in <strong>legs<\/strong> than in the arms. In appearance, this accumulation of fat can be similar to obesity, but the big difference with this other disease is that lipedema only reproduces in the legs or arms, while obesity affects the whole body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does lipedema occur?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Know the <strong>causes of lipedema<\/strong> it can also help us to detect it. This disease has a mainly origin <strong>genetic<\/strong> and, as we have already mentioned, it affects women. And it is that, one of the characteristics of the organism of women is also related to both the appearance and the subsequent development of lipedema. We are talking about <strong>hormonal changes<\/strong> women suffer throughout their lives. We started talking about the <strong>puberty<\/strong>, the first moment in which lipedema can appear. But we cannot ignore other important situations such as <strong>pregnancy or menopause<\/strong>.
